Vaclav Benes, MD

Graduated at the I^st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. First he started to work as an occupational physician. After reaching the highest specialty degree in GP. He was elected as Regional Medical Director in Prague. For many years he was active as lecturer, tutor and trainer in undergraduate and postgraduate level in the position of Vicechairman of the GP Department.
During the years of restructuring Czech health-care system after 1989 he cooperated as an advisor and member of different committees in the Czech Ministry of Health and was appointed as WHO Temporary Regional Advisor for Primary Care.
Dr. Beneš is member of the scientific Czech General Practice Society, worked in different board functions, since 2006 he has been appointed as Honorary Board member. Internationally he was active as Vicechairman and Honorary Treasurer of the European WONCA.
He published articles on health-care organization, family medicine undergraduate education and general practice vocational training, clinical cardiology and gastroenterology, prevention and travel medicine. He is author of Vademecum of Medical Documentation, co-author of medical textbooks and Czech version of the International Glossary of GP/FM.
